EHS Grading Policy | |||||||||

Grades issued to EHS students
**Grade Weighted**classes shall have assessments count as 60% of the grade- and daily work count as 40%
- At the end of a semester, teachers will give a
**Semester Test**. It is up to the teacher whether that test is a unit test or a comprehensive test covering everything from the semester. Following the long standing EHS practice, the semester test will be counted as 20% of the semester grade. The**Semester Grade**will be calculated: first nine weeks 40%, second nine weeks 40%, and the semester test 20%.
*SEMESTER TEST EXEMPTIONS:**FALL SEMESTER: EHS does not have test exemptions for the fall semester so no student will be exempt from the test given by the instructor at the end of the first semester.**SPRING SEMESTER: To be exempt from taking semester tests given on May 21-24, 2018, the student must:**have an average of at least 85%,**have no major discipline issues,**have no significant attendance issues in the spring semester.*
*NOTES ON ATTENDANCE: In the event of a question about attendance issues, the EHS Attendance Committee will determine if the student qualifies for the test exemption. An absence is not excused if the excuse note is not turned in within three days of the absence. More than two unexcused absences can disqualify a student from receiving the test exemption.**STUDENTS WHO EARN THE TEST EXEMPTION will be required to attend school on test days. Reward activities will be planned for those students.*
- The district shall permit a student who meets the criteria detailed in the grading guidelines a reasonable opportunity to retake a test for which the student received a failing grade. (EIA LOCAL)
- If the student meets the criteria to retake a failed test, he/she will have a maximum of three days to retake the test for a grade
**not to exceed a 70**. It could be less than three days to retake the test if the situation falls in the last week of the grading period because teachers have deadlines to submit grades.
- Students shall be permitted an opportunity to turn in Late Daily Work for a grade deduction as indicated:
**1 day late**thirty points (that is, 70 will be the highest possible grade)**2 days late**fifty points (50 will be the highest possible grade)**More than 2 days late.**No work will be accepted more than 2 days late. Such work will receive a grade of zero.
- Teachers will contact parents at any point during the nine weeks when a student’s
**60**%.
- Students who engage in
**academic dishonesty**shall be subject to grade penalties on assignments or tests. If the grade penalty causes the student to fail the subject for the nine weeks period or semester, it is at the teacher’s discretion to offer the student an opportunity to complete an alternative assignment or test to raise the student’s course average to passing (70%).
- An average of 70% or higher of the learning objectives shall be considered a passing grade for credit accrual. A student’s grade classification is based upon the number of credits earned, freshman
**(0-5.5)**, sophomore**(6-11.5)**, junior**(12-17.5)**, and senior**(18 or more)**.
- Any student who does not pass a portion of the STAAR EOC test will be
tutorials/classes,*required to attend remediation*.*including summer review and retesting*
**Three Week, Six Week, and Nine Week progress reports**will be issued along with notice for a teacher/parent conference if necessary.
